St. Mary's High School - Academics

St. Mary's High School has a challenging and rigorous college preparatory curriculum. The Administration, in conjunction with the Curriculum Committee, meets on a regular basis to insure that St. Mary's Curriculum is in accordance with the New York State Regents. We also offer programs, which go beyond these requirements, to prepare students for college and a life of learning.

St. Mary's offers an array of Regents and Honors courses, which are described in the Course Description Catalogue. Our elective courses give each student the chance to learn of and develop a variety of talents. We also have an extensive Advanced Placement program that offers many college-level opportunities. St. Mary's graduation requirements not only meet, but surpass New York Regents requirements.

St. Mary's also offers a full slate of clubs and organizations that supplement and compliment our curriculum. The St. Mary's (Marion) Chapter of the National Honor Society plays an integral part in the life of the school. members of the NHS provide regular tutoring for students who are struggling or those that just want to get ahead. Our Scholars Program enables students to participate in a variety of enrichment activities to further their educational experiences. Whether it is Model UN, Poetry Club, Web Page Design Club or the Healthy Lifestyles Club, these and other groups offer numerous chances for students to immerse themselves in St. Mary's vibrant academic program.

St. Mary's emphasis on academics is also reflected in other ways. Our athletic teams utilize mandatory study sessions in which the team studies together in order to emphasize team work on and off the field. Scholar athletes are the norm not the exception at St. Mary's. Faculty members offer after school review classes, one on one tutoring and SAT preparation classes. Mandatory Homework Sessions help students focus on their work after school under the supervision of a teacher who can help if the need arises. Success is the goal at St. Mary's and the multi-faceted academic program is designed to achieve that goal.
